In our bones, we all know this kind of relationship.
Maybe the ending was written long before either party showed up. One of them might've made a terrible decision and spent the rest of the story paying for it. Or, despite all good intentions, the universe simply took one look at two people’s happiness and said, "absolutely not."
The endgame isn't making it to the finish line. No. Our goal here is far, far worse. We need to make everyone miserable when the whole love falls apart.
How to play: Roll, pick, combine, ignore the numbers entirely. Whatever gets your characters into the most emotionally expensive situation possible.

On the shoulders of giants like Sherlock Holmes and Jessica Fletcher, your character's going to get answers to the most burning mysteries they have about others.
Sometimes we all want to play some angst and see just how far our characters will fall.

♡ the date meme ♡
Dinner. A movie. Maybe a walk somewhere after, assuming neither of you has run out of things to say. Dates aren't supposed to be complicated. Mostly, you sit across from somebody and find out whether the conversation can carry the night. For once, nobody has to save the world before dessert. Probably. You've faced worse than a shared appetizer.
♡ Post your character. Name, canon, and preferences go in the subject line.
♡ Tag around. RNG a prompt or pick whichever one looks like trouble. ✿ ✿ ✿
01. first date. You asked. They said yes. Now there's a reservation with your name on it and no plan for what happens after the small talk runs out.
02. blind date. A mutual friend swears you two are perfect for each other. All you know going in is a name and a table number.
03. fake date. It's for the cover story, or maybe you just need your family to stop asking questions. Either way, this is completely practical.
04. bad date. Everything that could go wrong has, and the night's still young. Salvage it or order something expensive and see how much worse this can get.
05. double date. The couple who suggested this is fighting in the parking lot. You two barely know each other. Their appetizer is getting cold.
06. staying in. Takeout containers on the table. You're wearing something that probably belongs to them. Somehow this is still the best night you've had in months.
07. all dressed up. The occasion is an opera, a gala, or somebody else's wedding. Whatever it is, you both clean up better than expected, which is going to be a problem.
08. the long haul. After years together, tonight's job is proving you can still surprise each other.
09. the redo. The first attempt crashed and burned. One of you wants another shot, and asking twice turns out to be harder.
10. rivals. You can't stand each other. So why did you say yes? More importantly, why are you both trying this hard?
11. the setup gone sideways. You came along to third-wheel, chaperone, or keep an eye on somebody else's date. Then they left. The check didn't.
12. rained out. Whatever you planned isn't happening anymore. You're wet, annoyed, and making do with the first shelter you found.
13. the competition. Mini golf. Trivia night. Something that was supposed to be harmless. Then one of you started keeping score.
14. interrupted. You got fifteen good minutes before real life came looking for you again.
15. morning after. You were supposed to go home last night. That clearly didn't happen. So. Breakfast?
16. the anniversary of nothing. There's no occasion. One of you just felt like doing something nice and got a little carried away.
17. out of town. Nobody here knows either of you. That makes some things easier to say.
18. wildcard. Bring your own disaster.

There is someone in this world made for you.
That is what everyone says, anyway.
Somewhere, there is a person whose soul fits yours: someone written into you before you ever met, waiting at the other end of whatever thread, mark, dream, scar, or old piece of magic proves that neither of you was ever entirely your own.
Sometimes, finding them is wonderful.
Other times, you look into the face of the person fate chose for you and realize that something has gone terribly wrong.
They're your enemy. They're cruel. They're afraid of you, or you are afraid of them. One of you loves somebody else. Perhaps you already tried to make it work and learned, the difficult way, exactly how much damage two people can do when everyone keeps insisting they belong together.
You can leave.
The mark remains.
Then the bond begins to hurt.
Perhaps it always did, and nobody thought that part worth mentioning.
Your soulmate bleeds, and you wake with blood beneath your fingernails. Roots may be curling around bone before you even know they are there. A healthy tooth comes loose over breakfast. At odd hours, your pulse catches on a rhythm that isn't yours.
Distance can make you sick. Proximity may do stranger things.
Whatever lives in the bond has decided the two of you belong together.
Your body agrees.

| ① comment with your character. ② repliers queue up a text (or two or three to choose from) that they typed up, but never sent. ③ only they fat-fingered and set them flying out of the outbox into infamy. ④ it's two in the morning jfc why are you asking me if i'd love you if you were a worm? no, i don't think my little pony is a metaphor for communism. go to sleep. check out theunsentproject if you'd like more serious ideas. |
Okay, no cheating.
Look at the character above you and guess how old they are.
Maybe they look exactly their age. Maybe they’ve got one of those faces where the answer could reasonably be anywhere between nineteen and forty. Maybe your character takes one look and gets it so wrong that there’s no recovering gracefully.
Only one way to find out. Drop your best guess!
HOW TO PLAY

You're very close.
Closer than normal. Closer than polite, probably.
A crowded room will do it. So will a secret that can't be overheard. Or one of you takes a step forward and the other never bothers taking one back.

Injuries have a knack for showing up right when you least want them. Suddenly, your plans are in chaos. You might try to tough it out. Maybe you know you should sit down. Or someone else has already decided for you and is rummaging for the first-aid kit.
